INCUBUS - MORNING VIEW
The sixth full length from the Incubus lads, and what a release. It sounds
completely different from the rest of the releases too. The album all together
shows Incubus' ability to write different style songs, for example, how
they can write soft, almost-depressing songs, with 'Mexico' and 'Echo' showing
their ability to that aspect, and also how they can write the heavier, almost-grungy
variety with 'Blood On The Ground' and 'Under My Umbrella', and how could
we forget, that they can stick to their own style of funk-metal with 'Circles'
and 'Nice To Know You'. Another great thing about Incubus is that when it
comes to live performance, they are one of the best out there (click here
for a review), and i've never seen a better live act, and never listen when
people tell you that they're a boring and un-energetic live act, which is
what I was told, but it's so not true. The only songs on the album I don't
personally like are '11am' and 'Just A Phase', and I can still listen to
them and whatever. Incubus may have pretty much forgotten the oober-heavy
thing, but that's the exact reason why they've became big. They're one of
the most varied bands on the scene today, which is what wins them over a
huge fan base worldwide, of people young and old, or liked since day one,
or one day previous to this one. Morning View isn't the last we'll hear
from Incubus.
INCUBUS - WISH YOU WERE HERE
Lucky me eh? Managed to get my hands on a
copy of the limited edition live version of this single. And by live, I
mean ALL the tracks are live. The single kicks off with, not stating the
obvious, 'Wish You Were Here', from the album 'Morning View' and apart the
fact that that DJ Kilmore fucks up his key to do his version excursion on
the wheels of steel at the beggining of the song, the song is played to
studio recorded quality, in all aspects, especially Brandon Boyd's vocals,
as he does every word in every line of the song to perfection. Next is the
live version of 'The Warmth', from '99 smash Make Yourself, which like Wish
You Were Here, is played to absoloute studion perfection, and what makes
the live version exceptional to the recorded one, is in the interlude, where
Brandon's vocal power, and Kilmore's mixing power and combined to create
a really weird sounding vocal thing, where Brandon does notes, and Kilmore
echoes and adjusts the pitch of them, and although by my description it
may not sound too amazing, it really does sound very immense on the CD.
The CD closes up with Mexico, also from Morning View, and it is an acoustic
track, and one of many songs showing Incubus' diversity in their music.
I would definetley reccomend you buy this single if you see it anywhere.
